ARTIST STATEMENTS by MON. MARCH 14th!!!

1. Select your 3 strongest COMPLETED artworks from this year.

2. Write an artist's statement about these three works. Keep to a maximum of 250 words. Type your statement in Word so it can be spellchecked and word counted. Cut and paste your statement from Word into our GOOGLE DOC (link at right) as well as label information.

THINGS YOU MAY INCLUDE IN YOUR STATEMENT

- What is your inspiration as an artist?
- Which work do you feel was most successful? Why?
- Which field trip or art making experience had most meaning to you this year?
- If you attended one of the artist seminars, how did that improve or inspire your
work?
- What is the reason/concept behind each of your 3 artworks?
- Why did you use the media you selected?
- How did the media change the meaning, mood, or story of your artwork? (Think
about the graphite/beeswax drawing we did - quite an unusual media that may have had an effect of the meaning/mood).

THIS SATURDAY 1/8-- FIELD TRIP!!!!

Hey GT Artists! Happy New Year! This Saturday we're heading to the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore to view their current exhibition, "What Makes Us Smile." We will meet at Howard High School and take a bus to AVAM. The last time we had class, students were told about this trip and asked to DOWNLOAD the permission slip from this GT website (see below).

ADMISSION to the museum is $6 per student. Students are responsible for their own admission. If a parent/guardian would like to chaperone, it'll be $10. Also, the Visionary has an AWESOME gift shop - truly unique stuff. Bring some extra spending money if you'd like to shop!

PARENTS/GUARDIANS - Please make sure your student has their permission form FILLED OUT and SIGNED when they get to Howard on Saturday morning. If the student doesn't have the completed form, they cannot come to the museum and won't be prepared for the January 29th class. STUDENTS - bring a sketchbook and dry art materials. The museum does NOT allow pictures inside; please advise.

We will be returning to Howard at 12:30. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be on time when picking up your student after class. There have been a few times where Ms. Brennan, Ms. Jankiewiez, and Ms. Leatherman have had to stay after class with a student or several students because their ride had not shown up yet. Please be prompt when picking up your students.
